Feast of the Archangels – St Michael, St Raphael; St Gabriel -29 September, 2011
On 29th September, 2011, the Catholic Church celebrated the Feast of the three archangels – St Michael, St Raphael and St Gabriel.
(When I was in the first grade, I remember that I was very good in catechism and most
often I would get ninety and above marks for catechism. Sister Loretta was my Catechism teacher in the First Grade and one day she decided to give the best three students, prizes. I got the highest marks – about 90+. I remember what the two prizes were. The first item was a prayer book with the same picture (St Michael the archangel) on the book and the other prize was an altar light with a small red chimney. This was quite cute and any child would normally pick the altar light because it looked very nice and colourful, if they were given the first choice. As I got the highest marks, I was given the first choice and I chose the Prayer Book. I am sure that at this young age, I was guided by the Holy Spirit. Till today I am amazed at the choice that I made).
- ARCHANGEL ST MICHAEL –
He is the leader of all the good angels. He along with the good angels fought against the bad angels and his War Cry was
“Who is like unto God” and He won the
battle. We are all called to fight against the bad influences in our lives and live for God. Whenever we fail and fall into the enemies camp, we need to pray to St Michael to defend us. The prayer is as follows:
Prayer to St Michael the Archangel:
Saint Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in the day of battle,
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
By the Power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
Who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
(The St Michael’s prayer is a very powerful prayer and I think adults should say this prayer on a regular basis).
- ARCHANGEL RAPHAEL
Prayer to Archangel St Raphael
Glorious Archangel St Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace. You are a guide of those who journey by land and sea or air, consoler of the afflicted and refuge of sinners I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped young Tobias on his travels. Because you are the “medicine of God”, I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that aflict my body. I especially ask of you the favour (here mention your special intention) and the great grace of purity to prepare to be the temple of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
(This prayer could be prayed as a family)
THE ARCHANGEL ST GABRIEL:
(I studied in a Convent School in India and the church was next to our school. At 12noon we would hear the church bells ringing and we would all stand up and say the Angelus. I really love saying the angelus. This is a beautiful prayer.)
The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of
our death. Amen.Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that
we may be made worthy of the promises

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.

Hi! My name is Florence D’Costa. I am a Catechist in my Parish in Melbourne, Australia. I also consider myself to be an evangeliser and hence, I have this great yearning in my heart to Evangelise and to talk about Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I have studied scripture for five years and I was trained in teaching scripture. I have in turn taught scripture for one year to a group of the faithful who have been yearning to learn the Word of God. I was also trained in performing skits, write poems, stage on the spot dramas from stories in the bible and evangelise through dance and song.
I am also an Actress and a Singer and I belong to two Theatre Groups – COG Theatre Group and Amuse Threatre Group. We, in COG Theatre perform Christian Musicals to promote Jesus Christ. We train and teach cast members to become better performers and also to realise that they have been created for a specific purpose in life. In Amuse Theatre Group, we help cast members to become better people with a purpose and aim in life. When we stage plays, we reach out to the audience with a message which would stir them to become better people – people with a purpose in life!
By profession, I am a Civil Celebrant and I help people to celebrate any occasion.
I have a talent to make people happy. Happiness and joy come from Our Lord Jesus Christ. What I have freely received, I freely give. I have a flair for writing and I will try my best to help people to the best of my ability.
