Homes called Domestic Churches! Why? By Florence D’Costa

Some faithful or some people would be wondering as to why should our homes be called Domestic Churches.  From good and holy homes we get good/holy priests, good/holy doctors, good/holy lawyers/judges, good/holy scientists, good/holy politicians.  These will hear the voice of God and will be OBEDIENT TO GOD.  Everyone and everything that comes out of a good home will be good and holy.  That is why God is very keen for us to convert our homes into Domestic Churches.  He wants to dwell in our homes.  He is the Prince of Peace and he wants to reign in our hearts and homes.  He wants to help us and guide us. He wants to be Our God, not only in Church but in our homes as well.  If all the faithful brought up their children to make God No.1 in their lives, what a wonderful place would our world be and how pleased would God be with His people.  God is calling us to be saints.

Some saints who came from families :

  1.    St John Vianney  –  A priest who became a Saint.
  2.    St Gianna Berretta Molla   –   A Physician, Surgeon and Pediatrician.
  3.    St. Ivo of Kermartin  –  A lawyer who became a judge
  4.    St Albert the Great (d.1280)  A Scientist
  5.    St Thomas More – A politician

Domestic Church by Florence D’Costa

Jesus, Mary and Joseph – The Holy Family and their home was a Domestic Church.  St Joseph was Obedient to God.  He protected Mary and Jesus and kept them safe. St Joseph and Mary taught their son, Jesus scripture. Joseph taught Jesus to be a Carpenter. Their life was not easy.  They went through a lot of danger but St Joseph always protected them.  Such a wonderful and Holy Family.  For those who need protection, jobs, a foster father and for other favours, should seek St Joseph in prayer. Why? Because Jesus would not refuse His Foster Father anything.

This is a picture of a modern day family.  Here we see a father praying with his BAPTISED children.  The baptised : 1 Cor. 6:19 “Don’t you realise that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself”. He is teaching them scripture and helping them to pray at home.  What is the role of parents in a Catholic household. They are called to pray with their children.  Teach them the Word of God because God dwells in His Word.  Christ is the Word.  Teach them right from wrong, the right values in life and the Ten Commandments. Pray the Rosary, Divine Mercy Rosary and other Catholic prayers.  Teach them to be Catholic Christian.  More importantly teach them to love Christ because He is the Way, the Truth and the life. “John 4:Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The two greatest commandments of Christ are : love God first and love your neighbour as yourself.  When you teach your children to love God, your home becomes a DOMESTIC CHURCH.

I am the temple of the Holy Spirit. Every baptised should strive towards perfection and holiness. 2. God dwells in His word. The family love and worship God at home (Domestic Church).  Every member of the family should strive towards perfection and holiness.
3. The families are waiting to go to their parishes, where Christ dwells in the Tabernacle. Every Member of the Community should strive towards Perfection and holiness.

We are Overcomers in Christ by Florence D’Costa

My dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, let us not be sad, afraid or disheartened at what is happening around us.  At the present times, our dear wonderful world is reeling under the pandemic of Coronavirus.  We must believe that Christ is with us.  He will never leave us nor forsake us.  He promised to be with us till the end of time.  We are Overcomers and we are winners with Christ.  In Christ alone there is Victory.  Let us all cover ourselves with the blood of the Lamb.  This Palm Sunday, let us put Palms on our door or a Picture of the Divine Mercy.  Evil and sickness will pass over our homes and let our homes become a Domestic Church where God dwells.

God is my Friend, He calls me Friend!

God is Holy. He is my friend and He loves me. How blessed am I? How blessed are we? God is smiling on each one of us and He has got a lot of blessings in store for each one of us. He is waiting for us to believe, for when we believe and have total faith in God, it is only then that God will be able to pour out all His blessings on each one of us.

When we get down on our knees and pray, we must believe that Christ Jesus is with us and He does have a lot of special blessings for each of us. When we believe, we receive. Christ Jesus said, ‘If you have faith as big as a grain of a mustard see, when you say to the mountain, move, it will move.’ What are the mountains in each of our lives. What is blocking us from being happy and contented. If we have faith, we could say to these mountains or problems in our lives and it will move and go away. But we must trust in Our Friend Jesus Christ who is Our Lord and Saviour.

At the sound of God’s name, Angels will bow because God is great and majestic. So what is stopping us from believing in God’s great majesty. We must believe in God’s greatness and we must also join the angels and bow with them at the sound of God’s name. There is no one like our God and we must sing His praise Him. We must hold onto our God. We must never let Him leave us because of our sin. We must always repent of our sin and approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We must keep our whole selves clean and spotless – our mind, soul and body. If we stay near Our God, He will give us all the grace that we need to be pure and clean.

We must call out to His Holy spirit and His spirit will come and make us new. Christ Jesus is our friend. He calls us His friend. How privileged we are to be friends with a God who created this whole wide world. Who created the stars and the planets – who created mankind – you and me and put within us a soul where He dwells. We are the temples of the Holy Spirit, so as we walk the streets, the shopping Malls, the market places, to our work places, among our communities, let us take Christ Jesus with us. We are walking tabernacles.  He will transform those around us and those whom we meet. We must believe! Only faith can make us new.

Let us sing and be happy that we are friends of God and let us be aware that He calls us friends. My dear friends put on some spiritual music – sing and dance to this music and cry out to the Lord and thank Him for being our friend and for calling us His friends. We will always be His friend, so do not doubt in His love and in His friendship.

When we love someone or when we see our children, we see the greatness of God in them. So we must realise that God loves each one of us and He sees greatness in each one of us. The word of God says that Perfect fear casts out all fear. So my dear people, be strong and believe in Christ Jesus because He is our friend and He believes in us. There is victory in Christ Jesus because He was victorious when He rose from the dead.

I would also like to remind each one of you that we have been anointed at our Baptism and we belong to Him. We have been anointed to do good. We must be a blessing to our families, our neighbours, our parish and all those around us. We must give those whom we meet a smile which would transform their lives. Christ would reach out to those we smile at and He would bless them and bring Joy into their lives.

I would like to end with this statement – GOD IS OUR FRIEND AND HE CALLS US HIS FRIENDS. So, my dear people. Be happy and joyous, for happiness and joy is contagious. Let us be Contagious People for Christ Jesus! God is our friend. God calls us His friends, so let us be friends to those who have no friends! God bless you and May you be a blessing to others!

Trust in God with all your heart by Florence D’Costa

Proverbs 3:5 ❥
I know that some of us at times feel doubtful if we are loved and cared for by God.  When we look around us and we see that other people have much more than we have and we feel quite let down by God.  Through experience, I would like to share with you today that what you have is what God has given you and it is best to trust Him because He is able to see around the bend and we cannot.  God has our best interests in mind – So pray more, meaning coming into God’s presence and have a chat with Him.  Tell him your problems, your worries and if you have any anxieties, just share this with him and wait upon the Lord, for He will surely answer you.  He works when you TRUST IN HIM.  Yes, we are not able to understand God’s ways but as the word of God says – let us not lean on our own understanding.  When we trust in God, we allow Him to perform miracles in our

When a Catholic Man and a Catholic Woman who really and truly love each other, get married in a Catholic Church by a Catholic priest in the Presence of God, that is the best thing that could happen. This couple should make every effort to continue to stay in love for the rest of their lives. They should pray daily and make God their Number One ……

Colossians 3:12 by Florence D’Costa

This verse, I find very interesting.  Paul was in prison when he wrote to the Colossians.  So, what does Paul say here.  He addresses them as ‘God’s Chosen People’.  To belong to someone is very special.  It is a very special feeling.  And to belong to God is really awesome and especially to have the knowledge that God has hand picked and chosen them.  He further calls them ‘holy and dearly loved.’  When we are called ‘holy and dearly loved’ it gives us a feeling of being very close to God.  What is Paul telling them to do.  He is specifically telling them to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  These qualities belonged to Jesus Christ.  Because Christ was compassionate, he always healed the sick, made the blind to see, fed the multitude, raised the dead to life etc….  He was God and yet he was humble.  He did not strut around in grand clothes.  He was God and yet he emptied himself of all his glory and was born as man in this world.  Philippians 2:7  but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Jesus Christ humbled himself by being born was a mere creature.  Jesus Christ was kind to children who had no status in those days.  He would gather them and he would show kindness and he would speak with them.  Matthew 11:29 – Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 18:26-27  26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, cancelled the debt and let him go.  Here we see that Christ was patient and he forgave….  So my dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ is very patient and gentle with us.  So Paul is requesting us to be like Christ.  So, let us try our best to be Christlike.
