This is a happy time for all Christians.  It is a time when we go out of our way to spend money and time seaching for gifts that we could buy for our loved ones and friends. Well, now we are waiting for the arrival of Baby Jesus who is the Saviour of the W0rld.

During the First Week of Advent, let us spend some quiet time and meditate deeply on the coming of Baby Jesus.  What does the coming of Jesus really mean to us.  I will give you an exercise.  Take a pen and a note book and write down as to what you are expecting during this Advent Season – Spiritual Gifts – Material Gifts – Emotional Gifts.  What type of gifts are we expecting?  What type of gifts do we need?  How do we think Jesus is going to help us?  What Gift are we going to give to Baby Jesus this Christmas.  What gifts are we going to give our family and friends.  Maybe our attitude needs to change for the better?  Let us think and have some quiet time…..

When things in life become unbelievably difficult by Florence D’Costa

When things get difficult in our lives, we want to give up.  It could be loss of a job, sickness, when we feel betrayed by government, friends, employers – even when we feel betrayed by God, we must remember that God is carrying us – that whatever bad that is happening in our lives – God never leaves us.  It is important to remember that God is preparing us for something important.  Now, we are in a hopeless situation or situations but let us look further and beyond at the good things that is coming our way.  Does it rain all the time? No, the sun must come out.  Remember when Daniel was thrown into the Den of hungry lions, he was not devoured because he was protected by an angel.  So now that things have gone very sour in Victoria, let us remember that angels are protecting us and that GOD NEVER FAILS.  Let us Catholics and Christians and all people who believe in the power of a loving Creator, believe that God is working and let us wait patiently for Him to show His hand.  We are covered with His Blood and we are His Favoured people.  Let us unite in prayer and in love and wait for God’s loving response.  GOD ALWAYS DOES ANSWER. It is important for us to believe and to have eyes on Him.  Have faith my dear people.  Jesus Christ Never Fails!  We believe is. Living God – in a God of Life and He will breath life into our lives.  Christ died, but He rose again.  We might think there is no hope, but there is. WAIT PATIENTLY WITH FATH, HOPE AND LOVE! FOR MIRACLES TO HAPPEN.

Colossians 3:12 by Florence D’Costa

This verse, I find very interesting.  Paul was in prison when he wrote to the Colossians.  So, what does Paul say here.  He addresses them as ‘God’s Chosen People’.  To belong to someone is very special.  It is a very special feeling.  And to belong to God is really awesome and especially to have the knowledge that God has hand picked and chosen them.  He further calls them ‘holy and dearly loved.’  When we are called ‘holy and dearly loved’ it gives us a feeling of being very close to God.  What is Paul telling them to do.  He is specifically telling them to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  These qualities belonged to Jesus Christ.  Because Christ was compassionate, he always healed the sick, made the blind to see, fed the multitude, raised the dead to life etc….  He was God and yet he was humble.  He did not strut around in grand clothes.  He was God and yet he emptied himself of all his glory and was born as man in this world.  Philippians 2:7  but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Jesus Christ humbled himself by being born was a mere creature.  Jesus Christ was kind to children who had no status in those days.  He would gather them and he would show kindness and he would speak with them.  Matthew 11:29 – Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 18:26-27  26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, cancelled the debt and let him go.  Here we see that Christ was patient and he forgave….  So my dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ is very patient and gentle with us.  So Paul is requesting us to be like Christ.  So, let us try our best to be Christlike.

My dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, there is something I would like to share with you.  Many times in our lives, we do experience a sort of disability when it comes to doing God’s Holy Will.  Let us ask ourselves, Why?  Why do we feel incapable of performing?  It is because we try to do things with our own strength.  But if we realise that we are in Christ and Christ is in us and whatever we do, it is vital that we do through Christ who strengthens us.  If we keep this in mind and stay connected, God will give us the grace to do all things through Christ Jesus.

Inner Peace by Florence D’Costa

It is very easy for us to lose our inner peace. Inner peace is priceless, so let realise this and be happy. It is also important for us to love ourselves, our neighbour and most of all, Love God. Many of us at one time or another, think that God is not helping us enough but my dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, let us allow God to be God and let him be in control of our lives. God is awesome and he is the best person who knows what is best for us and for our souls.

Philippians 4: 6-7 by Florence D’Costa

When we pray, we come into the Presence of God and His presence.  God’s presence is soothing and comforting.  Sometimes, there may be times when we just want to come into His Presence and remain silent but yet being aware of His Presence.  When we come into His Presence, it is important for us to praise and thank God for His blessings from the silence of our hearts.  Then we could get into the mode of surrendering ourselves and our families to Christ.  What is the meaning of surrender – It means to let go – to give everything to God.  To have total faith.  If we have total faith in God, we will surrender everything to Him and Trust that He will take care of us.

Let’s say, when we were children, what would be our attitude towards our parents.  We ofcourse would trust them totally and completely.  That was my relationship with my parents.  I trusted them.  So, if we trusted our parents who are human and we believed that they would take care of us in the best way possible – how much more do we need to trust in God.  God was the one who took care of our parents who took care of us.  Well, so I guess that now we need to trust in God totally and completely for ourselves, our families and for all, especially for all those whom we love and care for.  SO, SURRENDER AND TRUST ARE THE KEY WORDS.

Our Heavenly Father, sent Jesus his son to die for us, so that we will have new life and hence it is important for us to SURRENDER TO GOD through Jesus Christ, His Son and trust in Him totally and completely for MIRACLES TO HAPPEN IN OUR LIVES.

Romans 12:2 by Florence D’Costa

Romans 12:2  Do not copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

What does Paul mean.  He means exactly what he has written – He very specifically tells us not to copy the behaviour and customs of this world.  At the moment in Australia a small group is clambering to redefine marriage and in Victoria the Government is trying to bring in a culture of death – they are wanting to bring in Euthanasia.  Now this is the way some parts of the world are thinking. But Paul says, ‘let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. ‘  So, we are called to look to God and not to the world, He will teach us his ways and make us a new person who will not be part of the world but a people who will belong to God.  When we belong to God, we will know God’s Will for us which will be good, pleasing and perfect – to God ofcourse.

The ways of the world is definitely not God’s ways and hence it should definitely not be our ways as well.  My experience is when we look to Christ and follow God’s Holy Will, we will be transformed and made new and when people see us, they will surely know that we belong to Christ.

God is our shepherd by Florence D’Costa

God is our Shepherd and we Iike sheep have all gone astray, so God laid all our iniquity upon His Son Jesus Christ so that we the sheep would be saved and redeemed. So, let our prayer be ‘ Shepherd me O God beyond my wants, beyond my fears from death into life’.
