Collosians 3:13 – 14 by Florence D’Costa

These two verses really and truly touches my heart.  We, the baptised are God’s chosen people.  So what is Paul saying in these two verses- He is calling us holy and dearly loved..   Then, what does he say.  He is encouraging us to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Meaning. that he wants us to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient.  He goes further to say that he wants us to forgive one another.  He says, ‘Forgive as the Lord forgave you’.  Paul continues to tell us that He wants us to put on love which binds all these virtues together in perfect Unity.  It is very important for us to be Loving.  Paul wants us to clothe ourselves with all these virtues but above all, he wants us to put on LOVE.

I would like to add here that we being God’s chosen people, it is important for us to be holy –  And to be holy means to be compassionate, kind, gentle, humble, patient and loving.  How can we say that we are God’s chosen people and be just the opposite to what Paul is calling us to be.

Let us spend some time in meditation and slowly but surely surrender ourselves to God who will change us into people with all these virtues.  So it is important for us to surrender ourselves to God and allow Him to work on us.  You and I are unfinished products …. For God is still working on us.
