Reaching out to Catholic/Christians Individuals/Families

Tithing and Belonging to a church community!

The Meaning of TITHE/TITHING:
It is a time honoured tradition of offering a percentage or portion of a person’s earnings to God out of Obedience and Thanks.
In 2 Cor.9:7, St Paul says : “Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. We need to offer God our very best. We find in the Old Testament that Able offered God a first born unblemished lamb. This offering he made with all his heart. He made his offering with thanks and gratitude and God accepted his offering. In like manner, we also need to offer God our very best in Prayer time, devotions, voluntary work, time for evangelisation and a percentage of our money to the church.

You need to remember that GOD WILL OUTDO YOU IN YOUR GENEROSITY because He is our Creator and the Creator of the whole universe. There is nothing that we have that He has not given us. Everything belongs to Him but He has generously given us so much and it is our duty to give something back to Him.

We have been created by God and when we were baptised in the Catholic church, we became a new creation and we were sealed by the Holy Spirit. So no matter where we went, when God looked down, He saw His Baptised people. Now, when He looks down, does He find us pleasing to Him? Have you made an effort to come back to church? What is keeping you away from church? Are you too busy working very long hours that you cannot find atleast one hour a week to come and worship Him or are you a people who have forgotten the Love of a God. Our Lord Jesus Christ is crying out to His people to come back. He is waiting with Open arms for you to come back. Come back to Him my people. Christ Jesus is yearning for your love. He wants to share your life and He wants you to make Him part of your life. He wants to be part of your family. What is your answer? Are you willing to come back and revive your relationship with Him. Are you willing to open the door of your heart to Him. Do we go to church to be nurtured and cared for by God? Are we living according to God’s Holy Will or are we just living according to our own Will?

Are we aware that we belong to God and that we are wearing His seal? If we are a loving parent and our children were ignoring us, how do you think we would feel? Hurt and wounded? Well, our God loves us unconditionally. Jn 3:16 says,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Our Heavenly Father so loves each and everyone of us that He decided to send His only son to die for us, so that we may have eternal life. We have a God who loves us unconditionally and He is waiting for you to come back to Him. ‘COME AS YOU ARE.’ Jesus Christ His son lives in all tabernacles in churches, waiting for us to come back to Him. So, my dear people, “Come back to the God who loves you unconditionally and who is waiting to nourish you with His Holy Word and with His Body and Blood. My dear people who are faithful and who come to church on a regular basis, please pray for the Baptised people who for some reason have not come to church in a very, very long time, to return to church and into His Tender Embrace.

For those of us who are coming to church and who have not yet registered with any church and do not belong to a Church Community, please do come back and register and Belong to a Church Community.

Now going back to tithing, if you are a regular church goer or not so regular and you have not yet begun to tithe, I think you should consider giving atleast a small amount that you can afford on a weekly basis for the upkeep of the church. Everything that we have comes only from God and I think it is only fair that we should give back something to Him for His Glory, so that the church on earth could continue their work of spreading the Good News.

We need to have a listening and caring heart. In the future, when we go to church, we need to get involved in what is happening. We need to see, in what ways we could lend a helping hand. The priest could be making announcements that additional funds are needed for renovations of a church, or Extra-ordinary Ministers are needed, or there is a shortage of readers or catechists – either for Sacramental preparation or for Children’s Liturgy or for helping out in a Social Group or whatever. Just listen to the announcements made and respond favourably, if you can.

There is something that I would like to bring to remembrance. When we go for Mass, we are taken into time – to the time when Our Lord Jesus Christ was rejected and was crucified on the Cross and He died because of His Great Love for you and me. His Heart is Bleeding and Beating for His people. He shed His blood for us and His cup is overflowing with graces, mercy, kindness,
joy, love and forgiveness and everything that we are in need of to have a fruitful life on this earth and in the next. Jesus Christ the Risen Lord is waiting for us to return to Him, like a Lover waiting for His Love and Beloved. My people come back and be refreshed by your Divine Lord, Jesus Christ.

I would like to end with the following :

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
